Kill 'em with kindness
A couple weeks ago, I was marketing through an Orefield neighborhood in broad daylight with some good ol' fashioned door hangers. It's something I enjoy doing (even though it takes forever) as it gives me great low-level movement in the fresh air!
At one particular house, the woman who lived there just so happened to be arriving back home as I was making my way down her driveway. She rolls down her window and yells, Can you tell me what you are you doing on MY property?
I am not surprised anymore when I encounter people that hate their existence enough to be bothered by a piece of paper they could just throw out and go about their day ... you know, like a normal human not triggered by things that don't alter their way of life in any significant fashion.
Letting her attitude roll off my back, I told the owner, "Hi! Yes, I was just putting a coupon for 50% off a therapeutic massage on your door. Is that okay? I can take it off your property if you'd like."
Well wouldn't you know it, in a split second her angry demeanor dropped down to a passive tone, "Oh, yes, thank you. I may just use that. You can leave it there."
I wished her a wonderful day and went about mine.
On days like that, I feel there isn't enough kindness in the Lehigh Valley, despite it costing absolutely nothing to spread. None of us know what others are struggling through in life, so it's important to treat others the right way.
While she wasn't so kind to me, it doesn't mean I can't spread kindness and gifts for you, Evan!
