Just be yourself
If you take a moment to think about how much time you have on this planet, it's shockingly short. Your day-to-day may not feel that way thanks to whoever told us we need to work 40 hours across five days every week until we're 70, but that doesn't change the fact life is short.
In perspective, we are lucky to get 73 out of the 4.5 billion years this planet has been spinning. Our fallen heroes did not get that gift; many sacrificed their lives to preserve our freedom to live however we please.
While they didn't get the more extended version of life on earth, they sure did live up to their most tremendous potential. And let's be honest here ... those service men and women were the bravest fucking people on the planet.
They fueled their brains with a whole foods diet to be focused enough to survive chaotic environments.
They moved their bodies through brutal workouts to be strong enough to endure overwhelming hardships.
They believed they were doing everything they could to defend our freedoms to the best of their abilities.
They did all of this in hopes we could use our freedom to live up to our fullest potential as human beings in our own right.
I know for sure I'm the only blog you'll read this holiday weekend that doesn't ask you to buy something at 30% off a 400% markup. Oddly enough, those on the front lines probably weren't thinking about mattress sales.
Instead, I feel like honoring those on Memorial Day should be all about living as your authentic self while encouraging others do the same. A little longer version of live and let live ... it doesn't get any simpler than that!
Whether we get the average 73 or a short-changed 24 years above ground, it passes by in the blink of an eye. So don't waste a single second trying to please everyone or fit into the status quo if it isn't the real you.
Why waste time self-sabotaging your ability to succeed?
Why waste energy worrying about what other people think of you?
Why waste effort doubting your capacity to do great things?
Why waste our brave service folks' sacrifices to turn around and settle life?
This Memorial Day, I challenge you to be your authentic self and strive to be the very best version of that. I have a sneaky suspicion that most people look back at their lives wishing they could have done just that.
You still have an opportunity to look back with no regrets! So go be your best self this week ... everyone else already exists, anyway :)
